Stress and Morpheme Boundaries
Stress
Stress falls on the first syllable of the root.
Affixes do not move stress.
Optional hyphenation
Hyphens may be inserted at genuine morpheme boundaries for clarity.
Hyphenated and unhyphenated forms are equivalent in:
- meaning
- pronunciation
- stress
- grammatical status
Examples:
efttag = eft-tag
wulflik = wulf-lik
timbde = timb-de
mannarens = mann-ar-en-s
Hyphens may not split a morpheme internally.
This makes the same notation useful in ordinary writing, teaching material, and grammatical documentation.
