Clause Structure

Basic clause order is strict:

SUBJECT → VERB → OBJECT

Word order identifies subject and object roles.

Examples:

ik timb husen

I build the house.

mannen timb husen

The man builds the house.

kwennen timb husen

The woman builds the house.

Because syntactic role is carried by position, nouns and pronouns do not require nominative/accusative case distinctions.

Prepositional phrases and temporal expressions may be added without changing the internal SVO order of a clause.
